A unique welfare scheme for women has been announced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary, J Jayalalithaa.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has directed the supply of free sanitary napkins to women prisoners, lactating mothers and girl students in the age group of 10-19 across rural Tamil Nadu.

The scheme will now be applicable in all rural areas in Tamil Nadu.

As part of this scheme three bags containing six napkins each will be given once in every two months to women in the villages. Women in the prisons will also be given three bags once in 2 months.

To aid the proper disposal of sanitary napkins, holes will be dug up in villages to bury the used napkins .
