Researchers have discovered an interesting formula to cope with work related stress - swearing.
A study by academics at the University of East Anglia has revealed that allowing staff to use expletives at work can actually help them let off steam and is also beneficial in boosting their morale and team spirit.
AdvertisementProfessor Yehuda Baruch, professor of management, said that taboo language creates a good team spirit, allows staff to vent frustrations and cements relationships.
"Our study suggested that, in many cases, taboo language serves the needs of people for developing and maintaining solidarity, and as a mechanism to cope with stress," the Telegraph quoted him, as saying.
However, Prof Baruch said it was important for employers to know when to tighten up on foul language. "Certainly in most scenarios, in particular in the presence of customers or senior staff, profanity must be seriously discouraged or banned," he said.
