Survivors of Crash Could Suffer from Traumatic Stress
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a real threat for the survivors of the ill-fated Flight IX-812, doctors have warned. Most of the travelers on that fateful flight on May22 have died.
However doctors say that the handful of survivors are also in serious danger of suffering from mental trauma following their involvement in that tragedy. PTSD is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event, says he National Institute of Mental Health. It also adds that people are most likely to suffer from PTSD if they have been exposed to a life-threatening event.

Some of the common symptoms of PTSD include physical symptoms like a racing heart or sweating, avoidance symptoms such as staying away from places that are reminders of the experience and continued depression.

Some of the recommended treatment measures for the condition include grief counseling. Air India has assured that the families of victims will also be given counseling sessions.
