Stem Cells Protect Heart After Heart Attacks
A group of American researchers have revealed that they were able to shrink hearts that had swollen to dangerous levels after heart attacks with the help of stem cells.
Researchers from the Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute in Miami conducted the trial on eight male patients by taking stem cells from the patients’ bone marrow before injecting them into the damaged heart.

One of the co-authors of the study, Dr. Joshua Hare, revealed that the treatment has been under development over the past decade and expressed hope that it will soon be available to all the patients.

“The results are very encouraging. We can't say whether that'll be in three or seven years down the road. It's hard to speculate precisely. But we're talking sometime this decade”, he added. The study has been published in the recent issue of the journal, Circulation Research.
