Steering sensors which can check the drivers vitals like heart rate and oxygen saturation level of blood while driving have been developed by German scientists from the Technische Universitaet Muenchen (TUM) in collaboration with the BMW group. The sensors can also detect a fainting spell or heart attack. The information gathered will be transmitted to a micro-controller and the results will be shown on the vehicle information system display.
In serious situations the system turns on the hazard warning lights, reduces the speed or is even capable of inducing automated emergency brakes.
