'Sowa-Rigpa' to Get Recognition from Union Government
'Sowa-Rigpa', a traditional system of medicine practiced in the hilly regions of India will now be recognized by the Union government.

This system incorporates principles of traditional Chinese medicine as well as India's very own Ayurveda and is very popular in Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Darjeeling, Lahoul and Spiti and Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni told reporters that recognizing this system of medicine would preserve and protect its origins.

The system of medicine will be recognized after suitable amendments to the Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970.
