Smoking Bans Spawn 'Smirting': Flirting While Smoking on the Street!

by VR Sreeraman on Jul 8 2007 4:56 PM

Speed dating, blind dates and the web are all passé, for the latest way to bag a partner is smirting-a combination of smoking and flirting.

This new trend is a blessing for many singleton smokers who can now experience new social encounters when going outside for a cigarette.

This blend of smoking and flirting developed in the countries where a ban on smoking in workplaces was introduced, reports The Sun.

The Irish were the first ones to discover the magic of smoking and flirting when their ciggy ban started in March 2004.

The ban meant that smoking in pubs became illegal, as it was the work place for bar staff. This situation actually gave birth to a huge subculture in Irish society as smoking customers of the pub stood outside with a cigarette and struck up conversations with like-minded people.

This phenomenon became to be known as 'smirting', which led to many flourishing relationships.

Experts have suggested that England, which has also imposed the ban, will enter the 'smirting' arena.

Irishman David Lowe, who personally watched the craze spread in his country, presented some tips for good smirting.

Some of the important tips that Lowe gave included: always have a lighter, practice inhaling, wait for rain, don't cough, use one-liners, be generous, have smoking etiquettes, and keep mints ready.
