A smartphone application which will help users find the nearest location where condoms are available for free , has been launched on Valentine's day by The New York City Health Department
Monica Sweeney, the city's assistant health commissioner, said, "We want New York City to be the safest city in the world to have sex.A lot of people come here for that, so we want them to practice safer sex."
Using the database of more than 1000 areas in the city, the application employs the GPS technology to locate the address.
Responding to criticism about the condom distribution program, thought to encourage teen sex, the city's health commissioner said, "We're not promoting the city, we're promoting safer sex. In New York City and around the country, adolescents and pre-adolescents have sex whether you give them condoms or not."
This application is available for download on the iPhone and Android phones.
