 Sleeping Beauty Syndrome Afflicts 24-year-old
Poppy Shingleton, is in her early twenties and has been battling a rare disorder, which causes her to fall asleep without knowing when she will wake up again. It could even take as long as a week for her to wake up again.
Explaining her plight, medically called the Kleine –Levin Syndrome, which has caused her to miss important occasions in her life, for instance her 18th birthday, Miss Shingleton said, “I slept through my 18th birthday. I hadn’t planned anything massive but I wanted to go out with friends for a few drinks and flash my ID. I’ve slept through Christmas and not woken up until after the New Year”

She does wake up in between to use the bathroom and eat but is still in a daze all through till the sleep phase is completely over.

This condition has less than 100 victims worldwide and is treated with sleeping pills and stimulants.

With treatment, she is now finding relief from these episodes. She is quite keen to get on with her life and not let the condition rob her best years.
