Short Men More Prone To Bouts Of Jealousy: New Study

by Dr. Sunil Shroff on Mar 13 2008 2:33 PM

Everyone one falls a prey to the green-eyed monster called jealousy. But are human height and jealousy by any means related? Studies say, yes.

Scientists have come out with a new and interesting finding that short men are susceptible in experiencing bouts of jealousy. A research was carried out by Spanish and Dutch scientists to study various factors behind the ‘short man syndrome’ or ‘Napoleon syndrome’

A sample of 549 men and women were taken for the study. It was found that though men in general felt nervous about their attractive and rich rivals, taller men seemed to be relaxed than the shorter ones.

Short men were found to be extremely jealous in the presence of powerful, strong, tall and rich rivals.

The results on women were rather complex, yet quite interesting. The female participants with average height were found to be more susceptible towards jealousy. But the key factor for jealousy in them was not in physical features of the other women, but mainly in physical dominance and social status.

Study results on taller men also revealed that they seem to enjoy a lot of privileges over the short men, like physically attractive partners, higher wages etc.

The survey was conducted among men and women in Netherlands and Spain.
