School Children Walk to Spread Awareness About Diabetes

by VR Sreeraman on Aug 26 2007 12:35 PM

Around 2,000 children from different schools here took part in a three-kilometre walk Saturday morning to spread awareness about prevention of obesity, diabetes and heart diseases among kids.

Organised by the Diabetes Foundation, the walk was flagged off by police commissioner Y.S. Dadwal from Rose Garden and culminated at the Siri Fort Sport Complex.

Doctors like Anoop Misra, chairman of the Diabetes Foundation, and Ajay Kumar, president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), along with actor Farouk Sheikh attended the programme.

Former cricketers Kapil Dev and Bishan Singh Bedi were also supposed to come but they didn't turn up.

"Walking is how our ancestors lived up to 100 years without diseases and medical help. It is time that all of us especially children should devote at least 30 minutes to counter rising spectre of obesity, diabetes and heart diseases in India," said Misra.
