Safety and Injury Fears, Forces Brit Schools to Cancel Sports

by Hannah Punitha on Jun 21 2008 3:15 PM

A British school cancelled its Sports Day just because the authorities feared the kids could trip and fall on the playing field.

In the letters to parents, the school said that it was dangerous for the kids to participate in egg-and-spoon, three-legged and sack races.

However, parents do not agree with the school and have slammed the so-called 'safety measure' by Holmbush First School in Shoreham, West Sussex.

"It would have been her first sports day. It's really upset me," The Sun quoted Louise Powell, 32, mum of Maisie, five, as saying.

Mum-of-two Laura Kirschner, 34, added: "Normally the kids play on concrete. That's worse than falling on grass."

However School head Rebecca Jackson said: "The field has cracks and holes which could be dangerous. It's not yet ready for sports day."
