Punjab CM Asks State to Follow Tamil Nadu Health Model
Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal has asked the Principal Secretary, Health to assess the feasibility of adopting the model of the Tamil Nadu government as far as the functioning of the healthcare institutions under the Punjab State Health System Corporation (PHSC) is concerned.

A report submitted by the review committee has said that the Tamil Nadu model was a sustainable one. That model sees the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation Ltd (TNMSCL) help the government in managing healthcare institutions by ensuring that high-quality drugs, medicines, surgical and suture items are available at all times.

The review also said that essential medicines may be provided to BPL people free of cost. J S Bajaj, vice-chairman of the Punjab State Planning Board and chairman of the review committee said that the main aim was to see that the quality of healthcare at the secondary level was enhanced.
