A new study suggests that including probiotics in your daily diet could not only help in the fight against obesity but also reduce low level inflammation.
Researchers from Lund University in Sweden conducted the study on a group of rats, feeding them bacteria known as Lactobacillus plantarum HEAL19 and found that those who had been given the bacteria had a richer quantity of bacteria in the gut which helped reduce the effect of inflammation causing bacteria.
"Rats who were given this specific lactic acid bacterium from their time in the uterus up to adult age put on significantly less weight than other rats. Both groups ate the same amount of high-energy food", lead researcher Caroline Karlsson said.
The study is published in the British Journal of Nutrition.
