President Pratibha Patil today called on Ayurveda researchers, scholars and experts to strengthen their efforts on patenting and standardisation of ayurvedic medical products in New Delhi.

Addressing the Pandit Ramnarayan Vaidya Puraskar function at Rashtrapati Bhavan here, Patil emphasised that such efforts would give a boost to the exports of ayurvedic medicine.

She said that the ayurvedic medicine system has many advantages, which need to be brought out and made known, as it is an affordable system for the economically weaker sections of society.

She said that she had discussed ayurvedic system of medicine with the leaders of Brazil, Mexico and Chile during her visit last month. She told them that not only ayurvedic medicines are effective, but they can also be cost effective, thus making them affordable to the common man.

She said this information and presentation was much appreciated by the leaders.

She also presented awards to Haridas Kustere, Suresh Kumar Chaturvedi, R. H. Singh, Mayaram Uniyal and T. L. Devraj for their contribution to ayurvedic education and treatment.

The Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Sources, Vilas Muttemwar, was also present on the occasion.
