Edmonton Obesity Staging System or EOSS can assist doctors in predicting the risk of death of an obese or overweight individual.

An expanding waistline is also connected with increasing risk of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease.

EOSS evaluates obese/overweight people on a five-point scale taking into account underlying health conditions as well as other risk factors. A score of 5 denotes elevated risk of health problems.
