The polyclinic plan touted by the Scottish government is facing stiff resistance from the GPs. The latter fear that their individual practices will be lost when they will be pooled together akin to super surgeries.

AdvertisementLord Darzi, the Health Minister was the one to moot the polyclinic plan in 2007. At that time it was hailed as the next best thing to happen to the NHS. However GPs participating in the Scottish local medical committees (LMCs) conference have asked the minister to resign.
Darzi should be ashamed "for becoming Gordon Brown's puppet", Dr John Ip, of Greater Glasgow and Clyde LMC, told the conference.
