In New Zealand, it is the older women who are taking to motherhood, compared to the women 40 years back.

According to recent statistics in New Zealand, there were 63,900 live births in 2010 as against 62,550 in 2009.

Population statistics manager Bridget Hamilton-Seymour said, "Annual fluctuations in births, in part, reflect changes in the size and age of the population, the age at which women have children, and the number of children they have. In turn, the number of births influences the future size of the population."
