Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit revealed that her government will be opening up at least a dozen new hospitals in the city with an aim of increasing the number of hospital beds to over 10,000.

Currently there are 38 government-run hospitals in the capital with just over 7,100 beds. However with the medical needs rising, Dikshit revealed the need for more beds in the city.

According to the government, two 50-bed hospitals will be opened in Molar Bund and Baprola while new 100-bed hospitals will be built in Siraspur, Keshavpuram and Jaunti. Burari, Hastsal, Sarita Vihar, Chhatarpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Madipur, Jwalapuri and Bamnauli will see the setting up of new 200-bed hospitals.
