New Father Holds Camera Flash While Doctors Operate on Wife
It was a bizarre situation at a clinic in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg when a new father had to hold camera flash to help doctors stitch up his wife after Caesarean section.

Jo Prins, who works for the Afrikaans newspaper Die Beeld, was the father in question and had to help out when power failed and the back-u[p generators did not kick to life.

"In the middle of the operation, the power went out. And the emergency power didn't switch on either," said Prins, who became a father for the first time. "'I used my camera's flashlight for lighting, so the doctor was able to stitch up my wife. There was no crisis and everyone was safe, but the power only went on again after two hours."

However hospital spokesman Sharleen Stone said the power had failed, but the generators responded, "We know there was a power cut in the hospital, but the emergency power did kick in. You'll have to take his word over ours."

Power failure is common in South Africa where many businesses are required to have back-up power in case of emergencies.
