Heaps of garbage and uncovered drains in Lalkuan provide an ideal breeding ground for the mosquitoes, leading to the outbreak of dengue.

The virus transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, causes severe fever, headaches, rashes and muscle and joint pain. Severe forms can cause haemorrhagic fever.
