More deaths caused by Medications than cancer or heart attack

Medicines cause more deaths than cancer or heart attack, a recent research has revealed. A medication screening program found errors in one in three prescriptions, according to pharmacist Ken Lee. Errors in prescribing doses, drug interactions, and allergic responses were some of the common prescription errors. Close to half a million Australians experience an adverse effect due to prescription medication annually. In his study titled, “How Safe is Your Prescription”, Ken Lee reveals that medicines and their side effects have caused nearly 190,000 hospital admissions annually.

This problem can be solved with better teamwork between doctors and community pharmacies .Patients must also question the purpose of the medication and must be better informed about its potential side effects.
