A 28-year old midwife in Kent delivered her own baby with the aid of her mother's makeup mirror after she found that the baby wouldn't wait until the paramedics arrived.
Claire Clarke-Wood had finished a 13-hour shift at the Croydon University Hospital in London and was sleeping when she woke up to find that her contractions had started.
She decided to take a bath to see whether it "settled things" but found that the contractions were very close together and on checking, she found that the baby was coming.
She then used her mother's makeup mirror and delivered the baby in the bathroom as it was not possible to make it to the hospital in time. "Me and my colleagues had joked: "Wouldn't it be funny if I ended up delivering my own baby? But never in a million years would I have thought it would actually happen", she said.
