The World Mental Health Day will be observed by the World Health Organization (WHO) in association with the World Federation of Mental Health on 10 October. WHO aims to spread awareness about mental health issues on this day.
The World Mental Health Day will also seek to increase investment in prevention and treatment services across the world. There is an unmet need in the area of mental, neurological and substance use disorders in developing countries where mental health issues have not received proper attention.
WHO is launching its Mental Health Gap Intervention Guide (mhGAP-IG) program on this day in order to increase the scale of services available for mental health issues in low-income countries.
Psychosocial assistance and medication will help millions of people with mental problems lead productive lives, the WHO said.
