With the World Mental Health Week fast approaching, medical professionals as well as community leaders are focusing on this much-neglected area.

David McLeod, manager of nursing services in New England says connecting with the community is the key, "Sign up, link up and get involved and it's encouraging participation in your local community and I think one of the key things is that mental health does have an impact to get out there as it's often socially isolating," he added.

Medical professionals have also made it clear that tackling mental health issues is directly linked with identifying them.

Early diagnosis will help medics as well as care givers understand the patient in a better manner and help them cope efficiently.
