Man Saves Wife After Donating Kidney Through Pair Pool Donation
A 47-year old man donated his kidney through the Pair Pool Donation in order to find a matching kidney for his wife who was suffering from a kidney failure.
Dave Howe desperately searched for a matching donor kidney for his wife after doctors revealed that his kidney would not be compatible to be used in the transplant. His wife, Kathleen suffered a kidney failure in 2007 and the couple spent six unsuccessful attempts in finding a matching donor kidney.

Howe joined the Pair Pool Donation in which a donor and a recipient couple with incompatible blood groups are paired with another couple in similar situation. The donor from the first group donates the kidney to the recipient of the second group while the recipient from the first group gets the kidney from the donor of the second group.

“We knew the odds were against us but we never gave up hope, waited for two years and had seven goes at the scheme before we struck lucky this year, when we were told that there was a match, I was elated. It felt like winning the Lottery”, Howe said.
