Man Overeats to Be Eligible for Gastric Bypass Surgery
Darin McCloud is a diabetic, weighing 127kg (20st). He is just 6 kgs away to qualify for the gastric bypass surgery.
In order to make it for the weight-loss surgery, he has begun bingeing on bacon rolls, crisps and bread in huge quantities to increase his weight. In order to qualify for the operation at NHS Hospital at Portsmouth where he lives, he needs to have a body mass index (BMI) of 45 and suffer from health issues like diabetes.

‘The operation will help my diabetes, help me stop being on insulin and help me with my other problems. I still eat, and that I can’t get my head around. There is a switch somewhere but I can’t turn it off.’

Dr Lorraine Albon, diabetic consultant at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, said: ‘If he doesn’t have the surgery soon he will lose his job and add further complications to his diabetes.’
