Ludhiana Goes Rock Crazy

by Hannah Punitha on Oct 1 2007 5:57 PM

Ludhina went plumb crazy recently and swayed to performances by four professional bands from Punjab at "Rockilution". The event was marked by drum beats, funky guitars and high-pitched vocals.

"The Innovatives", "Wasted Soul", "21 Rebel Street" and "Shell Shocked" – all joined to prove their talent in a pulsating contest organised by DSP Black 'Rockilution' at the Ludhiana Club.

"We have performed all over India, including Dhanbad, Pilani and IIT Roorkee. If we get promotion and sponsors from good brands, we definitely have a mileage," said one of the members of "The Innovatives".

"I have adopted Western and European style. The Westerners and Europeans are following Indian culture, so there is nothing wrong with we adopting their culture. It is like sharing each other's culture," said a member of another rock band.

The contest, which will hit seven cities across the country, promises to reward the winning band with a contract with a music company and a chance to cut its own album.

"This is the first rock show and the response has been good. But I want response to improve," said an organiser of the competition.

The rock bands were not compelled to sing in English.
