Love Condom Campaign Launched to Prevent HIV Infection
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) has launched a 'Love Condom and Stay Negative' campaign in order to spread awareness about effective prevention of HIV/AIDS.

The NGO has decided to distribute one million free condoms under this campaign and also to encourage people to voluntarily get tested for HIV.

"Condoms are the only affordable and preventable tools to prevent HIV infection. Efforts are being made to encourage the widespread use of condoms, community testing and universal access to antiretroviral treatment that can help in bringing down new infection drastically," said Teri Ford, senior global policy director, AHF.

The main aim of the campaign is also to encourage public-private partnership so as to effectively stop this disease. Condoms are the best way to prevent HIV, but just 5.3% of people in India use them, says M. Ayyappan, chairman and managing director Hindustan Latex Ltd (HLL),"The launch of the free condom campaign will enable millions in the country to stay protected from HIV infection," he added.

Latest data indicates that there are at least 2.5 million HIV positive patients in India.
