Lack of Space Sees Patients in Kitchen: Survey
A new survey published in a nursing magazine has revealed a desperate need for extra hospital beds with a number of hospitals now treating new patients in kitchens and mop cupboards.

More than 900 nurses participated in the survey carried out by Nursing Times magazine with nearly 60 percent of them saying that patients are being kept in areas that are in no way fit for treatment.

The nurses also said that such practice has occurred many times and in some cases the patients were kept for a number of days. Some of the nurses also expressed fears over the type of treatment available and said that should a life threatening emergency arise, the hospital is not fit to provide the necessary treatment in time.

“If a patient's condition suddenly deteriorated resulting in them having a cardiac arrest we would not be able to get the crash trolley to them”, a nurse said to the magazine.
