Kyra Shroff to be Given Lifetime Achievement With Diabetes Award

Tennis player Kyra Shroff will be bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement with Diabetes Award, the Diabetes Care and Research Foundation (DCRF) in Pune has announced.

A statement by diabetologist Abhay Mutha, president of the DCRF, said Kyra will be the first recipient of the award, which will be given away at Pune's Tilak Smarak on November 14, which happens to be the World Diabetes Day.

"A childhood diabetic, who has excelled in his or her life and not allowed diabetes to come in the way of her career is honoured with this special prize of Rs 10,000 and a trophy on November 14 every year," Mutha said. "The DCRF is also doing a unique project in the country called Childhood Diabetes Welfare Programme'. In this project, the DCRF adopts poor and needy children with diabetes from all over the state for their complete care till the age of 16. As many as 108 diabetic children are already adopted."

The foundation is also planning to distribute free books and diet charts on the occasion.
