Spicy Indian curries no longer excite the British taste as much as Italian pasta.
According to a study of diners’ internet search habits, Italian restaurants are not the UK’s top choice when it comes to eating out.And not only are Indian restaurants facing competition from Italian diners, but also Chinese, Polish and Eastern European food.
“No more is vindaloo the undisputed national dish of Britain,” The Sun quoted Tamer Ozmen, of touchlocal.com, as saying.
Enam Ali, the founder of the British Curry Awards and one of the UK’s leading Asian businessmen has also warned that the UK’s strict new immigration laws are leaving Asian restaurants in "unprecedented crisis", and putting curry at risk.
He had earlier revealed that the new laws meant that Indian restaurant owners were being forced to take in unskilled chefs from Britain or the European Union, rather than getting skilled ones from the sub-continent.
He also warned that if the trend continues, the 3.2 billion pound industry could soon falter.
