Medtronic’s InterStim Therapy achieved through sacral nerve stimulation helped reduce incontinent episodes in victims suffering severe fecal incontinence.

The device was found to be safe and effective in patients with fecal incontinence of more than two times per week.  Nearly 40% of patients on InterStim therapy were benefited with perfect continence after three years of using the device.

The InterStim system is a neurostimulator device which is implanted surgically to deliver electric impulses to the sacral nerve in order to modulate the anal sphincter as a way to control incontinence.

The device has greatly helped boost the quality of life for victims.
