Doctors at a Bangalore hospital saved the life of new born baby girl after performing a complex surgery to overcome a rare defect in the diaphragm.
 Infant Undergoes Rare Hernia Surgery

Jasna R was told that her as of yet unborn child was suffering from a life threatening defect of the diaphragm known as Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) and though the pregnancy would go through without any problem, the doctors in London failed to give any assurance that the child will survive giving it only a 26 percent chance of making it through.

The doctors then suggested that she should terminate her pregnancy. However Jasna and her husband travelled to India to seek a second opinion at Bangalore’s Cradle hospital. After the baby was born, the doctors, led by Dr Kishore Kumar and Dr Nandini, performed a rare laproscopic surgery which was successful.

Dr S Ramesh, the treating paediatric surgeon, revealed that the baby recovered faster than expected and was discharged just 10 days after the surgery. “Usually, babies end up staying in the hospital for over three to four weeks, but since Kavya was operated on using the laparoscopic method, the recovery was faster”, he said.
