by Rajashri on Jun 19 2009 7:41 PM

The Mid-Day Meal scheme is under the scanner these days after a lizard was found in the food served to kids at a primary government school at Neelkanth colony in Indore district.

The lizard was spotted by Kamala Bai, who is a helper at the school. She immediately informed Principal Badrinarayan Rathore. The meal was stopped at one and the principal reported the matter to Nandi Foundation, which distributed the mid-day meal to the school.

The foundation distributes mid-day meals at 348 primary schools and 184 middle schools of the state.

“This is not the first case where poor quality food has been supplied. In the past, cockroaches have been found in the meal served by the Nandi Foundation, but complaints against it have failed to yield any results,” Mr. Rathore said.

The incident will be investigated by Collector Rakesh Srivastava said Additional Commissioner (Municipal Corporation) Awdhesh Sharma.
