The Royal College of midwives has issued a warning about the increasing shortage of midwives in the region which is putting mothers and babies at serious risk.

There is a paucity of nearly 4,700 midwives in England needed to effectively handle the growing demand in the maternity units of hospitals.

It is time for some serious action to spruce up the services failing which the maternity service in the region may be unable to match the demand.
