In Young Girls, Make-up Poses Serious Health Risks

New research by The Environmental Working Group has revealed that make-up is very dangerous for young girls and poses severe health risks for them. The study revealed that chemicals in products like mascara, eye shadow and foundation may cause cancer, infertility or hormone imbalance.

The Sun reports that the study carried out on girls aged 14 and 19 found that almost all cosmetic products contained dangerous chemicals like phthalates, triclosan, parabens and musks.

"By the time most girls become teenagers many have a daily make-up ritual," Stacy Malkan, co-founder of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, told The Sun. "As the layers add up so does exposure to dangerous chemicals and that's very bad news for a young girl's health."

The Washington-based EWG also found that young girls used 17 beauty products daily as opposed to the 13 used by adults.
