UK is trying to grapple with a high birth rate - one birth every 40 seconds- which is putting a lot of strain on the maternity units.

According to the Royal college of Midwives, nearly 4700 additional hands are needed in England and Wales to manage the load.

A recent report has revealed the substandard quality of care meted out to women which is behind 17 of the 42 deaths that occurred over an 18 month period.
