Nine days after the tyre fire in a Swansea factory first started, the fire continues to burn leading to health fears for the residents in the surrounding areas. Businesses are also being affected in the region with pub owners stating that the number of customers dropping drastically over the past nine days.
Says Davinder Padda who owns Olivers Pub situated opposite the factory, “We’ve seen bookings for our usually popular Sunday carvery completely dry up. I don’t know whether to tell part time staff to stay at home, I don’t know whether there is any point for the chef to cook food if it will go to waste.”
The fire will also prove to be costly for the government with the final bill expected to cost over millions of pounds. Government officials state that cleaning up the mess alone cost over £800,000, the BBC reported.
