Growing Concern About Increase in Numbers of HIV Positives in Amritsar

The percentage of HIV positive people has risen to 6.88% in Amritsar. This was revealed during a lecture on HIV-AIDS given by Dr Pushpa Devi, head of the department of microbiology at government medical college, at BBK DAV College for women. She spoke about important symptoms of HIV which were falling ill due to simple infections and 10% reduction in body weight. She hailed the positive outcome of ART or anti-retroviral treatment for HIV positives.

"Awareness programmes on HIV are the need of the hour and also the only solution to this dreaded problem," she said.
