Government and NACO Jointly to Launch Sex Education In Schools
The Ministry of Human Resource Development, in collaboration with National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) has launched an educational programme, known as Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) for implementation by States and Union Territories in secondary and higher secondary school.

It is focused on three major concerns of adolescence: (i) Process of Growing up during adolescence, (ii) Prevention of HIV/AIDS and (iii) Prevention of Substance (Drug Abuse).

According to information with National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT), there have been some objections to the contents in the Toolkit, which is meant for the teachers. National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) has set up a Committee to critically review the material pertaining to Adolescence Education Programme.

Besides, all the States and Union Territories have also been advised to review the material to align the same in the context of local environment and the socio-cultural ethos.

This was stated by the Minister of State for Human Resource Development Smt. D. Purandeswari in a reply to a question by Shri P.S.Gadhavi in Lok Sabha today.
