 Free Healthcare for Pregnant Women on the Anvil
The Union Health Ministry in India has announced a number of major health initiatives including providing free healthcare to pregnant women as well as financial assistance to cancer patients.
The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad revealed pregnant women will be free service in government hospitals including free drugs and free transportation service to the hospitals and back to their homes.

He added that the costs for the services will be borne by the central government as it looks to deal with the high infant mortality rate across the country.

Apart from free healthcare to pregnant women, the health ministry will also be offering financial assistance to the tune of Rs 1 lakh for cancer patients who are unable to get the required medical care. To start with, over a 100 patients selected from 100 districts will be given the money to help them get chemotherapy, basic surgery and palliative care.
