Speaking to Australia's Cosmopolitan magazine, Kerr said that the secret of her trim figure and glowing skin was the inclusion of coconut oil in her diet. The 28-year old said that she has been following the practice since she was 14 years of age and said that she uses at least four tablespoons of coconut oil in her daily diet.

However health experts in the United States said that consuming coconut oil in such large quantities was not good for the health and warned that it could substantially increase the risk of coronary disease.

Says Keith Ayoob, who is the director of the nutrition clinic at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, "I can't say I'd want people consuming lots of coconut oil. You should use it sparingly. You want to cut back on saturated fats in your diet. I don't know what benefit it would have for weight management because it has just as many calories as any other fat."

What these medical experts don't realize is that the studies done on coconut oil which show it to be unhealthful used hydrogenated coconut oil. Hydrogenating any oil will instantly make it unhealthful. Natural coconut oil has been used for millenia in the tropics. Those populations using coconut oil have been proven to have virtually zero heart disease and only began to be plagued by heart disease after having substituted unsaturated oils for coconut and palm oils.
