A Korean waitress working at the famous Copthorne Hotel and Resort Queenstown Lakefront was admitted to the Queenstown's Lakes District Hospital where she was diagnosed with Hepatitis A.

Public health officials have issued a warning to guests who were present during the waitress’s duty hours.

The waitress had begun work at the Copthorne hospital on April 11 and continued till May 4th. Nearly 300 people have breakfast each day at the hotel, putting an estimated 6900 people at risk of the virus.

Public Health South has issued a warning to the guests who consumed breakfast during the period to keep a look out for symptoms of Hepatitis A. The risk is heightened for those who ate pastries, croissants or even fruits that were not peeled.

The period of incubation of the virus is anywhere between 15 and 50 days. Symptoms of Hepatitis A manifest as yellow eyes, nausea and vomiting, discolored urine and body pain. It is imperative to seek medical help following any of these symptoms.

A toll-free number 0800 709 126 is available for those who wish to seek more information about the risks of Hepatitis A.
