Fear of Epidemic Looms Over Flood Ravaged Orissa
As floodwaters recede in Orissa, the fear of an epidemic looms large in the face of inadequate healthcare facitities in the region.

The villagers having lost their mud houses to the floods are beset with problems of availability of food, medicines and potable water.

All these commodities are scarce and are hitting them hard.

"We are facing lots of problem related to food and medicine. Children are suffering from fever. No body has come here. We go to far-off places to get water and medicines," said Sunita, a villager of Basta.

However, the authorities say that the work of rehabilitation and provision of food and medicines are in full swing.

Thousands of people marooned in flash floods in Balasore district allege tardy pace in relief operations.

About one million people in 887 villages have been affected by flash floods.
