Face Transplant Recipient Urges People to Donate Organs
Connie Culp completed her final transplant surgery at Cleveland Clinic in July and thanked the anonymous donor who helped her avoid spending the rest of her life breathing through a tube.
The 47-year old was involved in a murder-suicide attempt by her husband who shot her face in 2004 with the blast shattering her nose, cheeks, the roof of her mouth and an eye.
Culp had to wait for four years before doctors at the Cleveland Clinic conducted a surgery which replaced 80 percent of her face thanks to the bone, muscles, nerves, skin and blood vessels donated by an unknown woman who had died.
