Evamist Exposure may be Harmful for Children, Says FDA
The spray is used to reduce hot flashes in menopausal women. Usually it is applied on the skin on the inside of their forearm between the wrist and elbow. The FDA said that if mothers cannot prevent their children from coming into contact with this patch of skin, then they must wear long-sleeved dresses.
The agency also said that exposure to the spray can lead to early puberty in girls and enlarged breasts in boys.
So far the FDA has received reports of eight cases of children aged 3 to 5 who were accidentally exposed to the drug and found that girls experienced nipple swelling, while boys had breast enlargement.
