European CE Mark for LUNA Aneurysm Embolization System (AES)

The LUNA Aneurysm Embolization System (AES) for cerebral aneurysms has been successful in getting the European CE Mark. Nfocus Neuromedical, manufacturers of LUNA claim that the Nitinol based product will have better results than traditional coils.

The LUNA AES is used to treat brain aneurysms. The LUNA has a self-expandable and multilayer implant made up of a nickel-titanium alloy called Nitinol. The device compresses easily within a catheter and then readily opens to full size once it is deployed within an aneurysm. It acts as a plug by blocking the blood supply and providing a scaffold to encourage tissue growth across the aneurysm opening.
