Egyptian Lawyer Gets Life-saving Heart Transplant from Indian Laborer
A 43-year old Egyptian lawyer successfully underwent a heart transplant surgery at the Frontier Helpline Hospital in Chennai.
Eesam Mohammed came to India early in June after he continued to suffer cardiac problems in spite of undergoing a bypass surgery back in 2007. The 43-year old was admitted to the hospital last week and was placed on the waiting list with 15 other patients for a heart transplant.

The hospital authorities were alerted to a possible match after they received the organ from a 51-year old coolie who was involved in a road accident and declared brain dead by Stanley Hospital.

The authorities then petitioned J Amalorpavananthan, who is in charge of the cadaver transplant program, who gave his approval after making sure that the heart did not match any Indian recipient.

“Once the heart had arrived, our team of surgeons and support doctors carried out the transplant without delay. The operation was a success and the patient is now conscious. In fact, he has been taken off the ventilator and all initial tests suggest that Eesam is fast regaining normalcy”, Dr Ganesh said.
