Australian researchers are claiming that consuming dairy products like cheese and yoghurt may help in weight loss. Their study of 40 volunteers involved a calorie-reduced diet, but some volunteers were asked to consume more cheese, yoghurt and low fat milk.
The Curtin University of Technology study found that volunteers who consumed three to five servings of dairy products daily lose the most number of pounds.
"Many people commonly believe that when trying to lose weight, dairy products are key foods that they have to cut out of their diet as they are high in fat," said lead researcher, Dr Wendy Chan She Ping Delfos. "This study has shown that when trying to lose weight people can actually benefit by increasing the amount of dairy they consume, as long as during the weight loss period total energy intake is less than their requirements."
People who consumed more dairy products also had lower blood pressure and the least stomach fat.
